Gas Prices hit $3.50

Gas has hit the $3.50 per gallon mark here in Hampton Roads.  The AAA reports that gas prices have risen by five cents in just the last week and nearly 30 cents in the last month.

Everybody complains about the rising price of gas, but apparently a lot of people don't think twice about wasting it.  Take this scene at my daughter's school yesterday.  I had to pick her up from a club meeting after school.  I parked, walked in, sat down and waited about 10 minutes while the meeting wrapped up.  Lots of other parents waited in their vehicles with the engines running for at least that long.  Now imagine that scene outside every elementary school in America.

One estimate puts the gasoline wasted on voluntary engine idling (parked with the engine running, that is) at 3.8 million gallons PER DAY.
